Join local author Amy Walsh for “From Coal Dust to Storybook Pages: Finding Stories
in Our Own Backyard,” as she shares some of the people, places, and lesser-known pieces of
local history that have inspired her historical fiction.
Along the way, Amy will take you behind the walls of the old West Mountain Sanatorium,
explore our region’s coal-mining past, introduce you to Scranton’s Woman’s Institute of
Domestic Arts and Sciences, and share some of the surprising things she has discovered while
researching her novels. She’ll also talk about how a bit of real history can spark an idea for a
story and lead an author to wonder, What if?
Come discover some of the remarkable stories that have been hiding in our own backyard and
how they found their way into Amy’s novels.
