Montrose Blueberry festival
There has never been a time in the 40-year history of the Montrose Blueberry Festival that we have not come together for a wonderful weekend in early August. However, in these unprecedented times, and with heavy hearts, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Blueberry Festival as it is normally held on the Village Green in Montrose, PA.
In its place, we will hold several smaller celebrations at the Montrose library location at 458 High School Rd. As the committee moves toward making these celebrations a reality, watch your local Susquehanna County newspaper, the library website, or our Facebook page www.facebook.com/susqcolibrary.
The safety and health of our entire community, visitors, volunteers and staff was our priority when making this decision, which was not made lightly. At every step, we took into account not only the time and effort that goes into planning a festival of this size, but also the impact of what canceling this event would mean to both visitors and our local supporters. However, with Susquehanna County still in the yellow stage, we are unable to be fully confident that it will be safe to gather in early August.
As the organizers of this festival, it's painful to cancel the 2020 event in its normal capacity, but prioritizing the health and safety of festival goers, volunteers and the community is both the responsible and proper thing to do. We appreciate the support of everyone as we work through this difficult time, but we know it is the best decision for our event and community.
Please mark your calendar for next year’s event on Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7, 2021.
This decision, along with other canceled events, will severely impact our fundraising goals for this year. Fundraising accounts for nearly one third of our operating budget. Please consider helping us make up for this loss by making a donation to our fundraiser at www.gofundme.com/support-susquehanna-co-libraries. As always, we appreciate your support.
