| February 16--Grandfather's Journey |
|
Grandfather's Journey is a story about a family that has ties to two countries: Japan and the United States. A grandfather and his grandson both have called the two places home. However, the grandson notes that "the moment I am in one country, I am homesick for the other." This is a familiar situation for Yasuko Ely our presenter for this program.
Ms Ely grew up in Japan and brought many of the things from her childhood to share with us.
She read us one of her many picturebooks in Japanese and then translated the story in English.
We all got a lesson in the proper use and etiquitte of chopsticks.
Ms. Ely explained about the different systems that make up Japanese writing. Each student had a name tage with her/his name written in Japanese. Then she showed us how to write other words.
Everyone got a chance to practice what they had learned.
