January 10 - Snow Science

Snow Science

January 10th

Children's Room, Main Library

We began our program by sending the children out to gather samples of snow in test tubes from various places. They listened to a story about Wilson (Snowflake) Bentley who dedicated his life to the study snowflakes. This was followed by a slideshow of some of the actual pictures that Mr. Bentley had taken. We then examined the melted snow, checking for any debris, PH levels, amount of water left in the test tube etc. Crystals of different varieties were examined through a magnifying glass. They each went home with paper snowflakes of their own creation.
