An awning to protect the entrance ramp to the Hallstead-Great Bend Branch Library is now in place, thanks to generous donations of money and time in remembrance of two special people. The unsheltered ramp accumulated ice and snow, and the unprotected entrance cascaded rain and snow. With the new awning, library users can enter and leave in greater safety and comfort.
Constructed in loving memory of Jeanne E. Gula and George F. Houghton
With a special thanks (in alphabetical order) to all the members of:
- Hallstead-Great Bend Civic Club
- Hallstead-Great Bend Lions Club
- Ladies Auxiliary of the Musa Stiles VFW
- Musa Stiles VFW
- Sons of the American Legion Post # 357
- Sons of the Musa Stiles VFW
Broadline Construction contracted to build the awning, and George Houghton's son Scott donated his time to help. "Across Susquehanna County, the support for our libraries is tremendous," says Susan Stone, Administrator/Librarian. "It's wonderful to have this awning in place in time for the tenth anniversary of the Hallstead-Great Bend Library joining our county system!" The anniversary will be celebrated with an Open House at the branch on Saturday, May 2nd, from 10am-1pm.
