The 32nd Annual Blueberry Festival will be held on Friday, August 5th and Saturday, August 6th, 2010 9am-4pm (pancake breakfast starts at 8am)
The Blueberry Festival takes place on the Village Green and Library Lawn in beautiful Montrose, set in Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains. This annual celebration, two days of entertainment, food, crafts, and games, is sponsored by the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association. Each Festival draws thousands of people and raises money to help operate the county-wide library system and historical society. The Blueberry Festival opens both days with a pancake breakfast at 8am, followed by lunch. Snacks are available all day. Local growers donate fresh blueberries, and community members serve lemonade and ice cream. Homemade baked goods, including blueberry muffins and pies, are for sale. Each year an heirloom quilt specially made for the Festival is raffled off. The 2010 pattern was Variegated Nine-Patch, once again made by the The Basket Raffle gets bigger and better every year as well, with dozens of different baskets. Tickets are cheap so you can enter for all that you're interested in! A huge used and antiquarian book sale draws book dealers as well as browsers. 40,000 books are organized into categories for easy browsing. New books are also for sale. The Historical Society's museum of local history is open free of charge to the public. Children of all ages love the games and activities. For the smaller ones, there are many skill games, and every participant wins a prize. We hope the very popular Price Chopper Bounce Castle will returns this year--if so, it's free! For older children there are contests, crafts, and games. Face-painting is popular with everyone. Entertainment is scheduled for both days, including the Memorial Massed Band Concert at 2pm on Saturday. The Festival mascot, Newberry the Blueberry, makes the rounds during the Festival, shaking hands and waving. Local residents donate unique handcrafted items to raise money for the library. A Silent Auction of goods and services is held on both days, and the White Elephant Sale has collectibles on Friday, and a huge array of items on Saturday. The Festival relies on volunteers and donors. To remember the Blueberry Festival year-round, one can buy commemorative pottery, Festival t-shirts, denim shirts, sweatshirts, water bottles, jewelry, notecards, travel mugs, pewter keyrings, and more!
