The Susquehanna County Library is now offering eleven "Dear Reader" online book clubs, ranging from Good News (Christian-themed novels and non-fiction) to Pre-Publication (books that aren't even out yet!) With Mystery, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Audio, Business, Science Fiction, Horror, Romance, and Teen clubs, there's something for everyone. These clubs are completely free--all you need is an email address (don't have a computer? You can still get free email service at the library.) Every weekday morning you'll receive a short read from a current book--about 5 minutes' worth. The books are selected by a committee as being especially enjoyable. For most clubs, each Monday starts a new book (a few clubs are bi-weekly). When the week is up, if you'd like to continue reading the book, simply email or call your local library to ask for it, or log into your patron record online and request it yourself. What's more, each club has an online book discussion forum where you can talk about the books. "We offered this service in the past, when there was only one club," says Administrator/Librarian Susan Stone. "We're delighted to offer the expanded version! Since there are so many clubs now, we can't afford to purchase each and every title. We plan on purchasing the most popular (Fiction, Mystery, Good News, Non-Fiction, and Romance), but will rely on requests to decide which other titles to get." To join an Online Book Club, simply visit the library's website at www.susqcolibrary.org. You can join them all if you like, or just one--and of course you can switch or leave a club at any time. |

In celebration of Children's Book Week, a Parent-Child book club is starting at the Montrose Library. The first book is "Bud, Not Buddy" by Christopher Paul Curtis and the meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 15th, at 7pm. "We're going to start with this book and see how many people are interested in participating," says Outreach Library Mary Beth Manns. "If it's successful, we'll continue here and also investigate starting clubs at the branch libraries in Forest City, Hallstead-Great Bend, and Susquehanna." |
