Historical Society research requires lots of photocopying--whether it's unique and fragile source documents, one of the thousands of reference books in the collection, or compiled original research in a surname file. The faithful copier that had been in use for a decade recently broke (shortly after the service contract could no longer be renewed!), and in a time of continued funding shrinkage there was no budget to replace it. Thankfully, Carrizo Oil and Gas and Reliance Industries Ltd came forward to sponsor a new copier--and even more amazingly, they also donated an amount to cover replacing the main floor copier, which is equally old. Of course we will keep using it as long as possible, but now we can rest easy knowing that there's another one waiting in the wings. We appreciate the generosity and support of both companies! |

The Musa Stiles VFW Post 6223 has a clothing recycle bin on their premises in Great Bend, and they donate all the proceeds that come in to the Hallstead-Great Bend library location. It amounts to well over a thousand dollars a year! So if you have used clothing or shoes that don't have another home, the large red bin in the VFW parking lot is a great place to drop them off, 24/7. Thank you, and thanks especially to Musa Stiles Post 6223! |

The Montrose Lions Club had already made a generous annual pledge of $1,000 to the Library Building Fund, but they upped their donation significantly this year to $3,500. Kim Harwood, Chairman of the Fund, made a presentation at the February 15th Lions meeting about the need for a new library building, its role in serving all of Susquehanna County, and asked for help in dispelling some myths (or rumors) that have cropped up in the community about the project. He emphasized that the landmark building on the Green is not being abandoned, as the Historical Society will take it over for their much-needed expansion; no library locations will close; and that the new building is not "just for Montrose," as 65% of the circulation from the existing library location is outside Montrose Borough/Bridgewater Township, and as the source of materials and services for all locations its expansion benefits everyone.
