Do you have a card catalog? | Print |  E-mail

We no longer have a physical card catalog. Instead, the online catalog (linked on the upper left of any library webpage) has all the information of a classic card catalog plus more (all the county libraries are searchable simultaneously, keyword search is available, and you can access the catalog 24/7 from any Internet-enabled computer).

If you or someone you know doesn't want to use the computerized catalog, librarians are still happy to help in person or over the phone when the library is open.

When I find an item in the online catalog, how do I know where to look for it? | Print |  E-mail

When you find a title in the online catalog that you are interested in, you may see the call number and location on the results screen. For full details, click the title and scroll down to see information for each physical item held in the library system.

Location identifies the library building and collection where the item lives (for example, "Forest City, Forest City Main Floor" or "Montrose, Montrose Main Floor." Montrose Outreach is the Books-by-Mail/Books-on-Wheels collection; ask the library for these.) This is a joint Pennsylvania system, so you may see locations outside of Susquehanna County; our holdings are in Forest City, Hallstead-Great Bend, Montrose and Susquehanna only.

Call number indicates where the item is shelved if it's available. F means adult fiction (shelved alphabetically by author), J is juvenile fiction, q is oversized, non-fiction will have Dewey Decimal System numbers, etc. Please ask the library for details on where to find items at each individual library.

Status shows whether the item is checked out or not. Available in green means the item should be on the shelf. Any other status will be red, which means you can ask to have the item put on hold for you and we'll call you when it comes in.

Next to a red Checked Out you will see the date due (note that it may or may not come back by that date, and it may be renewed until a later date.) If there is no due date, the item is long overdue.

Where can I use my library card? | Print |  E-mail

Your Susquehanna County library card can be used at any of the county locations: Forest City, Hallstead-Great Bend, Montrose, and Susquehanna. It also entitles you to receive Books-by-Mail service if you need it. You can also use your card to access online resources like POWER Library and Learn-a-Test, as well as request and renew online.

If you live in Susquehanna County, you'll have an ACCESS-PA sticker on your card which entitles you to apply for a library card at any other Pennsylvania public library that participates in the statewide ACCESS-PA program.

Please note that the Pratt Library in New Milford is not part of the Susquehanna County Library system.

What is the ACCESS-PA sticker on my library card? | Print |  E-mail

If you live in Susquehanna County, your library card should have a navy-blue ACCESS-PA sticker on it. You can show your Susquehanna County card at any participating Pennsylvania public library in order to apply for a card there (each library uses its own card, so the one you have is not a "master" card, but it does entitle you to get a card at any participating public library). Each Pennsylvania resident is only supposed to have one ACCESS-PA sticker, on the library card from their home county.

The ACCESS-PA system is also what allows you to return your library items at any other participating public library, and to ask the librarian to request items from other libraries for you.
