Our circulation system is being switched from the Millennium product we have used since 2002 to an open-source program called Evergreen. The official launch date was Monday, January 23rd (set by the state), but there were some major issues which are still being worked on. We are open but certain things may be difficult to do. Thanks for your patience!
This transition is set by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, because this will eventually be a state-wide system. As a result, all libraries will have to share borrowing policies, and they have been pre-set by the organization running the new system (see below for more details). Here are the major changes that will affect you:
- Videos and DVDs will circulate for 1 week instead of 2.
- Fines will be .25 per day for all items except DVDs (which continue at $1 per day). This means VHS fines will go down!
- Circulation notices for overdue items will be sent more quickly (7, 14, and 21 days after the due date).
- Your reading history will not transfer to the new system.

Auction Night
|
|
Where can you eat, laugh, and shop--all in one place and all for a good cause? At Library Auction Night! This will be the fourteenth year for our annual Auction, which fills the Montrose VFW on Rt. 706. The doors open at 4pm, a "comfort food" dinner starts around 5pm, and the Auction kicks off at 6pm. Tickets (at the door) will be $10 per person, which includes the delicious buffet dinner, beverages, and desserts. Comfort foods planned include meatloaf, mac and cheese, and lots more. Organizer Anna Ruegner is hard at work gathering a huge array of wonderful art, crafts, baskets, and gift certificates for the auction. To get an idea of the range of items, check out lists of items donated over the last four years. No matter what you're interested in, you're bound to find something you'd love! There are some great bargains to be had, and it's always a delightful, laughter-filled event. All proceeds benefit the Library and Historical Society. Generous local businesses and individuals donate the items, the food, and buy ads in the program--all are needed, so if you can help, please call the Library at 570-278-1881 or email auction@susqcolibrary.org. |

Summer Reading
|
|
The 2011 teen Summer Reading group filmed their version of A Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo for the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival. James Kennedy, the author who organized the contest, featured their film in his post about animal-themed Newbery books, calling it an "enthusiastic version" and saying "I like how they're always on the verge of breaking into laughter throughout the entire thing, when they're not actually laughing." Check it out here! Congratulations to the entire crew and children's librarian Karen Braker-Reed! |
